Unhappy Halloween

It was inevitable. Within two weeks at daycare, Adam picked up a cold. The poor little guy has a little fever, cough and runny nose. He actually is doing pretty well with it. He is not as fussy as I thought he would be, he is actually more lazy (much like his daddy). All he wants to do is sleep, even when he should be eating. The worst part of this cold is when he cries. You can just tell that his poor little throat is sore. :( The doctor said that things should clear up in a couple days. Here is a picture of Adam getting lots of cuddles from mom. I forgot to mention it on our last post but congrats to Eric and Denise Schmidt on the birth of their baby boy Evan Christopher. He was born on October 15 weighing 8lb 8oz, 19 3/4 inches long. We were able to stop by and visit last Sunday when we were in the cities.

The rest of my week at work was really good. Adam is doing well at daycare, and even though I miss him during the day it is getting easier to leave him there. Last night Shyla and Josh Thompson had their annual pumpkin carving party. There was lots of good food and company. There were also a lot of kids running around. Along with Adam there was of course Raleigh and a set of twin girls who are a year and a half. They all looked so cute dressed up in their costumes.

Today when I was washing bottles I just had to get some video of Adam in his swing. He looked so cute looking around and smiling that I just had to share it.

Back to work

I want to apologize for the our absence. To make up for it, I have posted a bunch of pictures and a new video. A lot has been going on in the past week, oh where to begin. On Wednesday of last week, we took Adam to his two month check up. He weighed in at 12lb and was 23 1/2 inches long. Poor Adam did have to get three shots, but I think it was harder on mom and dad than it was on him. He got a great report from the doctor, so it's comforting to know that Ryan and I are doing something right.

Thursday grandma and grandpa Fried came for a short visit on their way through town. They were headed to Minneapolis for the Bison-Gopher football game. It was a short but nice visit.

On Friday Adam got a visit from Gayln and Julie Short. For those of you who don't know, they are the parents of my best friend from high school Michelle. Michelle is currently working for the Peace Corp in Africa. I was actually able to talk to her on the phone while they were visiting and catch up with her a little. It was so wonderful to hear her voice. I miss her a lot. It was a nice surprise on my last day of maternity leave.

Friday night we headed down with Erika and Joel to the cities for the game. We stayed with Joel's parents that night, and indulged on all the sweets that Deb had left for us. Saturday morning we were up early so we could all meet in time for kick off at 11:07 am. Our group took up an entire row at the game, and instead of watching the game the grandparents had more fun playing pass the baby. He was passed by the Fried grandparents, to the Childs grandparents then on to friends Dale and Patti Kusnierek, and then on the Ken and Becky Buck. Uncle Dan and Uncle Dave also got their chance to hold and play with him during the game. Needless to say mom only got him when his diaper needed a change. It was an exciting game, with the Bison winning 27-21. Adam did very well during the game with all the noise and distractions. Towards the end all the sights and sounds caught up with him and he finally settled into good nap. Saturday night I was able to go out with Erika and Meeks for a couple of drinks. It was so nice to get away and not feel like a mom for a couple of hours. It was also nice to come back to the hotel and see both my babies sleeping peacefully.

Monday was my first day back to work and Adam's first day at daycare. I did better than I thought I would. We had dropped Adam off a couple times last week for and hour or two just to get used to it. I really like the daycare and the ladies in the infant room. Adam did very well his first couple days so I hope it continues that way.

Happy two months to Adam

Adam is two months old today. In honor of him reaching this milestone, I wanted to post the top six products that I could not have lived without these past couple months.

Number 6

Good Start Formula

As many of you know, I tried breastfeeding at first but for physical (and mental) reasons it didn't work out. I am so glad that there is the formula option out there. It has made things so much easier (and less painful) for me, and now Ryan can help with the midnight feedings.

Number 5

The Burp Cloth

This goes along with formula. As Adam is eating more, he is also spitting up more. This small piece of fabric has saved many of my outfits and Adam's. It also cuts down on the amount of laundry that I would be doing he if did get me every time.

Number 4

The Car seat

Not only does the car seat provide a safe way to travel with baby, it also is great way to calm an inconsolable cry. On a few occasions, we have used this trick when Adam has been fussy. We can put him in his car seat and drive around to look at houses or get coffee while he drifts off into a peaceful sleep in the backseat. I wanted to show pictures of how much he has grown in the past two months.

Number 3

The Soothie

This is the wonder pacifier. When Adam gets a little fussy, and he has been fed and his diaper changed, I can just stick the Soothie in his mouth, cuddle him a little and he calms down pretty fast, usually into a peaceful sleep.

The Cell Phone

This one was almost my number one. This came in very handy my first couple weeks with Adam when I was calling my mom, Shyla, a very patient ask-a-nurse, and Ryan crying, only to hear that I was doing a good job and that everything was going to get better (sometime babies just need to cry). Thank you to those people for being there to listen.

Number 1

The Rain Forest Bouncer

My second set of hands. During the day, when it is just me, it is so easy to set him in his bouncer so I can get things done. He just rocks out and has a ball while I wash the dishes, fold laundry, eat, or even just relax and watch TV. I love this seat and so does Adam. Enjoy the video!

Another fun weekend...

We had another very fun weekend here in Fargo. The weekend started off on Friday when Ryan and I purchased a new washer and dryer. Ok not so fun, but it sure made me feel like a grown up. My Dad, Aunt Edie, and cousin Cathy came into town that night and we all went out for dinner. Saturday we went to the NDSU homecoming parade where I was able to show off Adam to all my friends whom I haven't seen in awhile. The rest of the day was filled with shopping and eating. We carted Adam all over this weekend and he did very well, only fussing when he was wet or hungry. Last night Adam slept the whole night from 9:00 pm to 6:30 am. This has been his longest stretch yet. I hope he keeps it up. Adam will be 8 weeks old tomorrow and I can't believe how fast it has gone and how much he has changed in that time. Of course I couldn't end a post without putting up a few pictures.

Washing machine woes.

Well our washing machine finally bit the dust. Not totally unexpected given that it is at least 25 years old, but still not a purchase I wanted to make any time soon. So our plans for the weekend now are to find a new one. We also have some family and friend coming through town which will be fun. Good luck to the Bison this weekend as they take on Cal Poly for their homecoming game. We are hopefully going to make it to the parade on Saturday if the weather is good. I will post some picture for you of Adam at his first homecoming parade. I took some fun video of Adam this morning when he was all smiles. This is my first attempt at video posting so I hope it works.

Full weekend...

I'd like to start out by congratulating my two favorite football teams in green and gold for them both remaining undefeated this week. And special props to football immortality, number four himself, for throwing his 421st and 422nd touchdowns to surpass Dan Marino for the most career touchdowns. Might I add he couldn't have picked a better team to set this mark against. I only wish Randy Moss would've been an option to throw to.

Sometimes it surprises me as to how much you can actually do in a weekend. We travelled to eastern Minnesota this weekend and visited all sorts of relatives. Friday night we drove to Grand Rapids and stayed with my Aunt Cheri and Uncle Terry. This was my first time visiting them since they moved from a wonderful house in Walker. I was surprised to find a similar house with an even better view. They were all decked out and had everything we needed for Adam because of their own grandchildren. Cheri cooked her famous pork chops for a wonderful late supper and we all stayed up late talking. Saturday morning my cousin Carmen came by with her two boys, Scott and Nick. Scott is 4, I believe, and Nick is 6 months so he and Adam will be very close in age. We had a lot of fun with all of them. So much fun, in fact, that we didn't leave for Duluth until after 12:30 even though we planned on being in Duluth by noon.

Upon arriving in Duluth, we went to visit Robin's grandfather in the hospital so Adam could meet his Great Grandfather (who I think Adam looks like). We then proceeded to Grandma and Grandpa Childs for supper with Great Granny, Slightly Above Average Uncle Dave, Wayne and Robin, and Patti (friends of the family's). Since Papa was released from the hospital on Sunday afternoon, we all went over to Granny and Papa's for some more family time. Even Uncle Dan and his girlfriend Liz joined in on the festivities. Of course we have many fun pictures for you from our weekend adventure.
